5 things that your Janitor wishes you knew

Janitors see a lot of different things throughout the day. While this list is not inclusive, they are some of the common situations they encounter on a daily basis. Here are 5 things your janitor wishes you knew. The job of a janitor comes with an expected level of cleaning up people’s messes on a day-to-day basis, however, there are some things that are over and beyond the call of duty. Here are a few things that janitors wished you knew.

Bobby pins are Satan’s tools!

These little guys are sucked up and get stuck in the hoses of our vacuums and cause all sorts of havoc! When this happens it blocks the hoses to the point that we lose precious sucking power not to mention time getting the hose cleaned out.

Flush the toilet completely.

Have you heard the phrase: if it is yellow let it mellow, if it is brown flush it all the way down? Nobody likes a floater, including Janitors. Please do what it takes to flush it COMPLETLY. Hold down the button, pull, or hold the handle until the job is done. We thank you.

If you have a nice chair, it will be sat in.

Being a janitor is a lot of physical labor and we cover a lot of ground. When we see a comfy chair we might take that opportunity to rest our weary feet, or share the opportunity with our crew.

If you puke in a trash can, take care of it yourself! Ewww!

That is a nasty thing to be smelling all day and who knows when the janitor will be around to clean it up. They don’t like it either, so take care of it yourself.

Don’t put trash in a bagless can!

There is nothing more frustrating than having to clean out a garbage can because someone put a half-eaten cheeseburger, gum, candy bar, and (insert whatever else here) in the trash can without a bag and it gets smashed all over the place. That adds extra time and energy to clean that out and get it ready for the next day.

These situations happen all too often and janitors see a lot more than just these 5 situations every day. Be courteous and keep these things in mind as you go about your day in your office and place of business. This will make our job easier and do a better job when we can focus on the tasks assigned.
